Surfing Santa Maria River Mouth
The Santa Maria River Mouth is just south of Pismo Beach. The land here is isolated and prone to high winds.
Surfing the Santa Maria River Mouth takes a lot of dedication and is for hardcore surfers only. The river mouth is heavily polluted with pesticides. And like all river mouths, junk floating down the river and into the ocean attracts sharks. Not to mention, the water at the river mouth is murky, so a shark will have a hard time telling you apart from a seal.
Surf at your own risk.
Trivia: Cecil B. DeMille’s film Ten Commandments was filmed at the Guadalupe Dunes in 1923.
