Surfing Point Sal and Silos
The last publicly accesible land before the Vandenberg Air Force Base is Point Sal. Like the rest of the surf spots in North County, Point Sal is very hard to get to (and not really worth it). The land around here looks like Carmel or Big Sur, and the ocean is unforgiving.
Big west swells crash into off-shore rock outcroppings and steep cliffs. If you’re determined to hike into here, just be mindful of the air force base security, and the sharks.
South of Point Sal is a surf spot called Silos, which takes its name from a missile silo on the adjacent air force base.
